Post by Help » Sat Sep 29, 2012 3:07 pm

Our mh has singles, our living room is not flat. It slants down from center out. with an maybe 4X 6 ridge for the last 2 weeks we have I think moisture on ceiling. Could this be from the ridge cap. I had new 25 yr. singles and new ridge cap put on 10 yr ago. we had someone to come and check they singles are could and they think the ridge cap is on so were is the mois. coming from.

The year rating of shingles is for optimum conditions. For example here in Florida where the sun can be brutal a 25 year shingle that last for 15 years makes for a great record. The shingles may be guaranteed but the roof system is not. If a single shingle fails the manufacturer will replace that one shingle.

The most likely place for a leak is the ridge cap, but after ten years everything is suspect. For example; After ten years the tar like stuff that they put around the stacks and vents could very well have developed cracks and need a fresh application

Ten years of no maintenance is a great run, regardless of the shingle rating. Get the roofer that installed the roof or another professional roofer to make an inspection and correct the problem.
