Reroofing with skylights

Post by ORMarian » Fri May 18, 2012 7:47 am

I need to reroof a 1990 skyline. It has two skylights and a roof pitch of 2:12. I'm having trouble finding skylights for this pitch from local vendors which makes me think I better get advice about reroofing, in case it needs to be done differently than a 4:12 roof.

So, my questions are: Where do I get skylights? Should I be getting a specific type? Will architectural type shingles work, etc.?

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

If your skylights are in good condition you do not have to replace them. Most plastic dome skylights installed in 1990 probably are cosmetically ready for replacement, even if they are still weather tight.

The best source for quality components that fit manufactured housing specs is Complete Mobile Home Supply Online. If you don't see what your looking for right away, click their CONTACT US link, and let them know what you are looking for. They deliver straight to your door.

Most skylights have integral flashing or a special flashing kit that is specifically designed for the skylight and roofing material that you select. Obtain the installation instructions for the skylight's make and model.

You've got a lot of new choices today for manufactured home roof replacement. New engineered shingles are made to look like cedar or tile. Even metal roofs, the old standby for barns, have made a comeback with new colors, styles, and 50 year maintenance-free life expectancy.
