Electrical outlets-Vandalism or Acts of God? Help please.

Post by Anne0135 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:33 am

Dear MH Friends, I keep having my electrical outlets go out on only one side of my home. Its along a wall that abuts to the outside.

I have a 1997 Horton (no model #, just the serial no) on a permanent foundation. I am not sure this is such a coincedence. Here are my questions:
1.) Is there a blueprint I can get to see how to access this wiring?
2) Is it possible to sabotage these outlets from the outside?

they are the ones along a wall thats back is to the outside of the house, in the backyard-where it would be easy to get to and work on unnoticed, and they do not all go out at once. Its like a serial strike that has happened over the last 2 months.

I have a crawl space in back and outside outlets along this portion of the house. Its almost as if the wiring has been cut because these dont seem like surges since the appliances do not get blown out.

My ex is an electrician and one by one these sockets "blow" only at night and only when he cant get to me by any other means.

So I ask: 1) can outlets be sabotaged from outside a home?
2) Is there a blueprint available for this home so I can at least see what is going on? and
3) Does anyone know of an AFFORDABLE electrician in my area who might be able to fix this.

I am in mid-Georga. 31036 area code.

Thanks so much for any help. Sorry to make this into a soap opera I'm just not sure these are just maintenance issues or "acts of God". I need to obviously fix the problem and if it is my ex need to know how vulnerable I am to it continuing to happen.

I sold many Hortons in the late 90's. There probably would not be available plans or prints, but Horton still survives. You might want to call them and ask about your problem. The Horton factory is in Eatonton, GA near Lake Oconee in middle GA. I would not be surprised if they have a service contractor in your area they could recommend. A few things I can tell you. Be assured all Horton Homes have 100% copper wiring. Mr Horton always used a very different electrical system, he thought using full 2x4 wall studs for strength in walls made no sense if you cut out an inch or so to run wires thru. He thought this weaken the studs more than he was happy with, so all of Horton's wiring runs through the ceiling and down between the studs instead of around the walls through holes in the studs as others do. This would mean it would be very hard to secretly effect a number of outlets from the rear outside of the home. Call them and see if they can refer you to a good contractor in your area. Good Luck
