cooktop breakers

Post by tmcb » Tue Jun 21, 2011 4:22 pm

I have an older home that has an old corning glasstop electric cooktop. It does not heat properly and I am going to replace it.

The cooktop is a 32" 240V. The breaker box has 2-30amp breakers that are bridged together going to the cooktop. It looks as though most glass cooktops now are 30" or 36" and 40amp. My plan is to buy a new 40amp 240v 30" cooktop. I'll need to put in a new cabinet top to fit the smaller size but my question is-

Will I be fine with the new 40amp 240v cooktop on the breaker setup I have now?
