foundation retro-fit

Post by mikeandtiff » Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:05 am

I am trying to gather info on a foundation retrofit for a single wide i own. Is the "Sure-Safe" foundation system a retro-fit friendly approach or is it limited to a new construction application?

Sure Safe is probably the best system available for retrofits. Their system permits you to leave the home in place, while most others require that the home be moved off the foundation site for several days and then back again after the foundation is installed. You will find that this will keep the costs and time frame for the new foundation down to a minimum.

If a mobile home needed to be raised due to settling of the blocks, prior to the installation of the Sure-safe system would this be "opening a whole nother' can of worms?" or is this a common issue encountered?

thanks again

All structures settle forever... they can really measure the annual settlement of the Empire State Building into the bedrock that is under Manhattan.....BUT the vast majority of settlement with a manufactured home will happen in the first 6 months to a year. Regardless of who you get to retrofit your home ask them to include a re-leveling one time in the first year. Unless y9ou live in a swamp or on sugar sand that should take care of it.

Why are you retrofitting now? My doublewide was set on block piers 20 years ago and I cant think of any reason to change whats is working.

The only good reason to change foundations is if your tying to resell a home with FHA financing.
