Smokeing Marco Fireplace

Post by Super6Dave » Wed Jan 12, 2011 9:59 am

My Marco fireplace had smoke coming out of the top vent panel. Upon removeal of the cracked refractory panels, I found two large holes in the sides that are intended for gas log installation.BUT they provide a path for smole to get into the heated air stream!! Smoke was getting through the cracked rerectory panels and through the factory installed holes. I covered those holes with some stainless sheet, then reinstalled the refractory panels useing a fire block putty I bought at Home Depot. It came in a tube. I used two tubes. I sealed all the cracks as well as the bottom and side seams between the panels. replacment panels were WAY too pricey for me. After two weeks of fires, I have no smoke!
