Post by Pelsh » Wed Apr 29, 2009 8:42 pm

I have a 40 foot Mobile home with a 30 foot edition along one side. I would like to Remove Parts of the side mobile home to open up the Rooms. I know I have to sopport it with Posts and beams. but is there any other caution I should be aware of?

Probably many. header beams would have to be installed in the open areas. Remember you have substantial wiring in that wall. Rerouting is not always easy. For such a big, risky project you might be smart to invest in the services of a professional engineer who can inspect the home snd make sound recommendations about all that would have to be done..

I agree with the above comment and would include that in some states permits along with the engineering are required for homes newer than 1971.

Both the room addition and the old mobile home will need headers, posts (with additional pier supports below) , and electrical alterations at the opening locations.

The wider the opening the taller the header will be. Most older mobile homes do not have enough attic space to place the new headers flush to the ceiling.

I suggest doing an internet search for mobile home contractors in your city having a couple of them come out and toss about your ideas. Make sure their licensed contractors. Some states have a seperate classification for mobile/manufactured home contractors.

Good Luck,
