Removal of fender walls

I am renovating a 45 year old mobile home with an attached Florida Room. After tearing out the old kitchen cabinets and storage lockers, I found 2 metal fender walls jutting up through the floor. In order to acquire more viable floor space, I would like to cut the fender walls down to floor level, seal, and cover over with new sub-flooring and tile. Is there any reason why I can't do this? I have inspected the fender walls from the outside and find that the axle is well below the floor level. There are no wheels or tires, and the blocking is not effecting the fender wall area. The mobile home (Travelite) has been up on blocks for about 35 years and is permanently placed.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

What is a fender wall.... I have heard in some parts of the country the foundation under a fireplace called a fender wall ??

Sorry, for using my southwestern Michigan term. I believe that the correct term should be fender well, instead of fender wall. Regardless of the term, I am referring the bent strip of metal that surrounds and houses the end of the axle, the wheel, and the tire. And on second thought, perhaps the object that I wish to cut out from the floor area is actually a fender.

Since the home will not be moved again there is no reason why you can't remove the fender wells (more commonly known as wheel wells.) Don't see too many of those any more. Wheel wells that extended past the floor deck were really only common in 8' wide homes built in the 40's and 50's.

If I remember right Travelite was an RV company building units intended to bew hauled regularly..I found a few pics of old models;

Once the fender wells are remove, it will NEVER move with wheeld and axles again..Good Luck
