New Owner (Marco Fireplace)

Hello to all,

Well, I finally got me a piece of the american dream after renting for an eternity!

I have a Marco fireplace in this double-wide. Damper on top, blowerswitch is hanging out of the bottom. One connector is pulled out. I need a switch.

Little lever to the right of the fireplace looks like an air intake???? Yes? No?

Tried a small pine log last night, and the place smoked right up!

My questions-
Does the blower need to be on? Is that a circulator for the heat? or is it for..?

Does that lever to the right have to be down? Seems like its got only one position and I cant tell if it is operating a damper.
I opened the crawlspace and there is a piece of duct...but its on the other side of the fireplace (to the left of fireplace) Seems like that lever to the right can not possibly control a damper that far away!

The damper above the fireplace was open-I know I felt air coming down.(Now thats weird-thought it was supposed to flow up)

Really glad I found this forum.

The other poster here give some direct info on the fireplace manufacturer...but most draft problems are directly related to the chimney...The chimney must be clean and high enough to allow the air to rise up it...Most often draft problems are because the chimney does not go high enough....The top of spark arrestor should be well above the highest peak on the roof...

Thank you so much for the information. I burned a few small logs last night. Seems like that damper "Is" the airflow from the under side of the house. In the "down" position, the handle provided a flow of air-the main damper was opened of course before lighting fire.

The manual was typical and gave me a great insight into the "how" it was put in place.

I have since found additional info on Marco Fireplaces.

The above link had a phone number listed. I called and got voice-it was actually the person listed. I am going to call to see if I can get a on/off switch for the blower located at the bottom of the furnace. I will keep this thread posted on my progress.

Owning a home for the first time AND being out "in the country" has its special challenges. You and this forum have helped me so graciously.

Thank you for responding. David's post gave me insight into the "draft" problem.
That has been solved with the understanding of damper postioning.
I now will contact this site-

for a on/off switch for the blower. Hope I can wire it-the blower looks like it is not an easy unit to pull out and service.

I know I am a year late on this, but I have the Hearth 36. It states that I do not need an electrical wall outlet to use the blower. How would I get the blower to work?

I have a marco model 79277SD the blower is not working It worked once or twice then stopped I feel it is a loose connection, but I can't find a way to get to it could someone help with this or is there a manual I can download Thanks
