Furnace Ventilation

Post by Merrydale » Thu Jan 03, 2008 1:14 pm

I have a Coleman furnace circa 1985, model number 7970-856. It is located in a compartment in my laundry room and works fine. My problem is when the furnace is running it draws air from the stove exhaust and other cracks in the house thus creating drafts. If I open the laundry room window part way there are no drafts however the open window creates a burglary oportunity. Question is, can I install a vent in the laundry room wall so the furnace can draw air? Are vents manufactured for this purpose? When I open the laundry window part way the opening is 6" X 16"

Thank you.

Andrew
