We live in a 1996 Champion double wide home located in a park. When we purchased the home in 2001 we had the leveling jacks inspected and adjusted by a proffesional. Since that time my husband has maintained them. However we have had a raised spot in the kitchen floor since day one. It runs accross the kitchen from the cabinet area toward the center of the home.Thinking this was unique to our home we just figured one day when we replaced the current flooring we would have to fix it. We toured a model on display at a local dealer for paint ideas and discovered it had the exact same raised area in the kitchen floor. The salesman acknowledged that there was in deed a raised area and was suprised that I had noticed it. He did not have any explanation for it. When I called the manufacturer phone number on our documents they told me it had to be from water damage and was not a defect. Is it possible that this could be a defect in the framing layout? We are preparing to lay down engineered hardwood soon and are debating about the best way to correct the problem. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Re: raised floor issue in a 1996 Champion
The problem you saw on a new home would NOT be from water (unless the dealer is VERY careless)...The new home you saw probably would from a bowed floor joist which does happen...Your problem could be the same and/or also be water damage to the press board floor you have...The area yours is in is common area for water damage of the subfloor...If you replace the floor with plywood, the problem will be fixed..Fixing a bowed floor joist takes a little more skill, knowledge and tools than most do it yourself folks have..Good Luck..
