We just bought a mobile home for my father-in-law, and now we are getting ready for it to be moved . . . any suggestions on things to do to "prep" the place for the move? My husband saw somewhere that you should secure/tie down the fridge and stove . . . but it did not say HOW. We did tape the cabinet doors shut, but it is just masking tape . . . is that enough? We just don't want this house to get up to Dad's land and be all trashed because we did not know how to prep things correctly.
Any suggestions are welcome!

steps for moving day
Re: steps for moving day
First step is to be sure you are contracting with a highly qualified, licensed, insured mover..A quality mover will advise all steps to make a successful move..

Re: steps for moving day
We have already hired a mover, and he did advise us to take down all of the light fixtures, but we did not know that we should tape cabinet doors shut until the person who lives in the mobile home next to the one we purchased told us to, so we are wondering if there are other things that the mover may have forgotten to tell us.
Do we need to strap down the appliances? And if so, how do you do that?

Fridge should be attached to the wall in back about 3/3 of the way from the floor to the top..If the fridge came with the home from the factory there will be a strap already there...some wrapped around fridge others are bolted to the back..The original stove would have had brackets screwed to the floor at the bottom and sometimes straps attached to the wall at the top back...Again..your mover should car for all of this and have the materials to fasten to the floor or walls...
Usually outside lights and door knobs should be off the home. Some movers will secure the interior doors to keep them from hitting walls..Most movers will screw outside doors shut as well. As far as furniture is concerned if mover allows it, it must be laid flat on the floor or secured.
Again any quality mover will walk through and be sure all is well before he moves it..I would suggest you ask to see his insurance...he should have liability to cover him and you and insurance that would cover your home...Many movers do NOT have load insurance..You can probably buy trip insurance from your insurance company...
Good Luck

I know that NONE of the appliances are original. The last owner did a lot of remodeling on this place. I did not even LOOK behind or underneath to see if there were straps already there to secure them (I have never bought a mobile home before)

That makes me feel better. I was thinking that WE were going to have to go there and figure out a way to strap them down on our own!

There is none. We are buying this for my father-in-law and all of his stuff is already up at the final destination . . . he just needs the house to get up there so he can move all of the stuff in.
One more thing . . . would you recommend taping the windows, and if so, inside only or both inside and out?
Thanks again,
Shawn

Window tape should not be necessary...Some manufacturers remove or tape the sceeens to keep them from blowing off in transit...
