combining two bedrooms into one

Post by junebug » Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:57 am

My husband and I have a 85 manufacted home and want to combine two bedrooms at one end of the house into one big master bedroom, after removing the thin drywall in between them we see the wood braces connecting them, is it safe to remove them or will this weaken the center and cause any damage.

Assuming this is a single section home, the partition wall is non-load bearing.

the partion wall, although I do not know the right wording to put; looking at it there are two sets of wood "braces" side by side, for lack of correct words, in between. And reading several other posts, the walls are not the ones connecting a cathedral and pitch ceiling. Those walls are front to back as the one we would like to remove are side to side and at one end of the house. I don't know if I am making this easy to understand and I appologize for that.
I just want to be sure that before my husband takes down all the vertical and horizontal wood "dividers" that we are going about it correctly.

You need to contact a factory of manufactured home and find out the guide lines for the spacing of supports that the roof, ceiling, and walls need. Then you can determine what and if you can do the modifications.
