I have a '78 Fleetwood double wide with the original Gaffers & Sattler oven. The capillary sensor to the thermostat finally broke in half. I am having difficulty finding a new thermostat since G&S has changed ownership so many times and I can't use the oven.
Is there a universal part that can be used? The part number on the thermostat is 993454. No one in town knows anything! Please help.

Re: Old Oven Thermostat
You need to contact a wholesale appliance parts supplier in your area. They can cross reference the part and tell you if a replacement is available.

Thanks! I have called every number I could find in the book, as well as online. It seems that no one can give me any info on this part, except that it was permanently discontinued with no reference to a replacement. I realize that the oven is 30 years old, but it doesn't seem possible that I'm the only one still operating it!

You can try

A good used range can often cost less than and be easier to find than an obsolete part. Check with the used appliance dealers in your area.

Re: Old Oven Thermostat
You might be able to post an ad on freecycle saying you need a gas stove and you'll likely get one. Probably a lot less hassle than trying to track down the part.

Thanks to everyone who answered! THis is a separate wall oven and I wasn't having any luck finding a good used one. I finally found the part, but what a hassle!
It seems that no one has updated their databases with a new reference to the old part number. Maytag was the company who purchased Gaffers & Sattler and I also spent a lot of time on the phone with them, to no avail.
I did find a great company that builds old parts.. antiqueappliances.com. If you send them a picture of the part, they have the ability to rebuild or create it.
