GREETINGS:
I am looking at a home which measures 30' X 63'; a paper inside the utility closet indicated that it is a VINDALE CORPORATION home made in 1976 and included part of a serial number. Underneath, the home has formed steel support beams.
QUESTION: Is this an early model double wide home?
THANKS!
1976 Vindale
Re: 1976 Vindale
Vindale built very nice "mobile homes" ..pre HUD days...Vindale also built some of the earliest modular homes built in Florida...Vindale was built in Tallahassee..They have been long gone....Wish I could tell you more...I doubt the measurements are right...in 1976 the widest a section would have been was 12 feet which means the home could not be 30 feet wide...16 wide sections did not come along for many years...
Re: 1976 Vindale
Vindale did build some beautiful and well built homes, back in the day when they were in business. We find many of them still in excellent condition today across Florida. Mr Murray is right they didn't build any 30 wides. In the late 70s it was very popular to place a single wide as the core of a home and then add additions... sometimes on both sides of the single wide sometimes down one side which made the home very much like a double wide or even a triple wide. Is it possible that you have a single wide with site built additions?

Re: 1976 Vindale
Vindale never actually went out of business guys. The Florida plant was a second plant. The main plant is in Ohio. In 1982 Vindale filed bankrupcy and changed their name to Benchmark Homes and built mod.s only since then. They still build a small number of custom modulars each year.

Re: 1976 Vindale
Expandos were popular in the 70s prior to the development of double wide homes. They were probably discontinued around 1978 or 79
