125 gallon fish tank

Post by redcrane » Thu Jan 18, 2007 11:31 am

I have a 125 gallon fish tank that will weigh about 1800lbs when full of water sand and sitting on a stand. It is an older style tank with 3/4 inch glass. It will cover an area about 9.3 sq feet (72.5 inchesx18.5inches). That comes to about 193.6 lbs per sq foot. It will be centered against the end wall of my double wide on the front half of it. It will run cross ways to the end parallel to the floor joists. Should I beef anything up on this end of my home?
I just read the 75 gal post and was surprised since this was my reason for coming here. I also had to re register for some reason. I guess I got deleted somehow.

Thank You,

We had a 125 gallon in our old place. We made sure to put it over the metal beams under the house and if that isn't available, put extra pier blocks under that portion.

The weight is distributed over a smaller area than with a water bed and we're putting refrigs where they're designed to go. They can be amazing but they're a lot of work.

We had ours between the living room and kitchen as a divider. When we moved to this place it had to go because the only area large enough for the tank was too far away from the water source.

Maybe this terrible drawing will better discribe where it will be going.
The tank is 72.5 inches long and about 18.5 inches from front to back. So I beleive it will fit between the floor joists but it will cross the steel beams of the home.
I am wondering if I should cutt open the floor and install another joist. I have "The Manual For Manufactured/Mobile Home Repair And Upgrade book." I have been studying the possibillities of doing that and adding the extra pier blocks. If I understand the position that you had yours correctly, is that it was not on an end wall but it did run parrallel to the floor joists. Which if you had 18 " on center floor joists, the tank would possibly rested on at least one floor joist. Or it could have been smack dab in between the joists. I have a friend that has one set up in an inside wall (load bearing). However it would be located over the outriggers and that dosnt sound like a good idea.

Thanks again and the pic of the tank is really pretty, to bad you cant find a place for it.
