Hardwood Floors?

Post by Judy V » Wed May 17, 2006 8:08 pm

Hi,

We are purchasing a 1981 Pacific Living home and are wondering if we can put in hardwood or engineered flooring. Also, ceramic tile in entry/baths. Will the weight be too much?

Thanks!

Mac

Not an expert but here is my understanding:
Tile - Done as an option today by Palm Harbor; remodelers have some mixed results, due to floor flexing. There may be ways around that - go over to http://mobilehomerepair.com/ and have a look there too.

Hardwood - I've read that particleboard floors can't be nailed to properly (to install the planks) - if so, an engineered, floating hardwood floor would be my choice.
cheers, Mac

We put Bruce Hardwood from Home Depot in our 1991 Guerdon and have not had any issues whatsoever. It's a floating floor and have had a number of comments from inspectors and other tradespeople that it was a well laid floor.
We were lucky in that our sub floor was flat in the living and dinig room areas and the house was re-leveled 3 years earlier after the infamous Nisaqually Quake here in WA State.

HTH!

We live in Santa Maria, California and have just installed the Bruce engineered hardwood floating floor (Coastal Woodlands) in the living & dining rooms and Pergo Accolade (Sandstone) floating tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. The installers said it went down easily. Our home was just leveled a few weeks prior to installation (after earthquake bracing.)

It looks great!

Good luck with your new floors.
