Fireplace
Fireplace
We are looking into purchasing a Hallmark manufactured home. The manufacturer offers a gas fireplace that basicly is for looks. We want to install an insert (not a stove) in the fireplace to heat our home. We are at a snow elevation and do not have any restrictions on burning. We live in Fresno County, California. Can a fireplace be built into a manufactured home after installation? If it makes any difference, we are planning for a seimic pier foundation. Thanks for your info.
Re: Fireplace
There are many MH Builders that install real wood burning fireplaces in there homes as an option, some do quiet a good job heating. Talk to your dealer about swapping out the gas for a wood burner.
Your manufactured home is like any other framed structure, and can have a fireplace if it is built to the right safety standards. You might be able to buy a kit and install a fireplace yourself.

Re: Fireplace
We deleted the fireplace and put a nice wood stove in its place. Check with a woodstove dealer about fireplace inserts or a wood stove (which is usually more efficient). We live in NW Oregon and heat our house mostly with wood from our property.
Re: Fireplace
Thanks for the input. We are going to delete the fireplace the manufacturer is offering and have our fireplace dealer build the fireplace around the insert we are puchasing. This way we know it will fit and can be happy.
