please help first time owner adjust storm door
please help first time owner adjust storm door
Hi, this is my first post. I hope someone can help. My storm door binds at the lower lefthand corner facing the door from the outside. Also, at the top, the space is wider on the lefthand side than the righthand side where the storm door top meets the frame when closed. The hinges are like closed cylinders (there are three) and I don't see any screws or anything to adjust the tilt with. I know you all know how to do this, but this is my first mh and I'm just learning. Thanks so much.
Re: please help first time owner adjust storm door
You are describing a home with a door out of square...This is more likely a set up problem than a door problem...There should be piers of blocks directly under both corners of the door holding the side wall straight in this area..To adjust the door check the level of these piers a little jacking and shimming near these piers should do the trick...If the piers are proper it could be the whole door assembly (door storm door and frame) is not properly installed...shimming at the top..bottom or sides should help...

Thanks, now I'm afraid this is too much for me
I know this would be much easier for others, but I'm a 51-yr-old woman who has never done any "jacking and shimming" in my life! I was hoping I could adjust a screw or something. You see, I called the mh dealer who set up my home (it's under warranty another 3 mos)and was told that the warranty only covered "one door adjustment". They said that the adjustment had been performed at set up. Maybe it was adjusted then, because it's just in the past month or so, as it warmed up, that it got crooked. I'm hoping a nice neighbor in the park here can look at it and give me some advice, but I am trying to learn to do these things for myself. Thanks for your reply--Vicki S.

You are far younger than me....We are not over the hill yet..I hope you are not...Wish I would see 51 again...
Sorry that you have such a foolish dealer...I guess customer satisfaction means nothing to him/her...You did not mention if the blocking piers were on the outside wall on both sides of the door..are they????...You may have to look under the skirting to see...When you post back also let us know which state you live in so we can help find someone to help...I am guessing this is more than s simple adjustment...

Yay! Manufacturer rep fixed my door today!!Also question
I am so happy-although the dealer would not help me, the mh manufactuer sent a rep out who fixed my door, and also two stuck windows and an outlet..H also showed me how to take off the underpinning and crawl underneath (well, I guess I already knew how to crawl). There is water standing under my home, and he suggested I put a ground sheet under my entire home. I don't think I would have any problem now doing that myself. He didn't seem to think gutters would help, though. Does anyone have opinions on whether or not they are a good idea in swampy Kentucky?

Re: Yay! Manufacturer rep fixed my door today!!Also question
Great...The factory rep is correct there should be NO moisture under the home..The dealer should have graded the ground so that water would run away..NOT under the home...Even if you do put a vapor barrier down..it will not work if the water flows under the home...You might want to post the name of your manufacturer..so others will know of one that has at least 1 great service tech...Good Luck with your home..

I would like to have more information about the ground barrier. Is this something new? Thanks, Ryan
