We have a strange and ugly laundry room floor that's linoleum, all one piece but very ugly.
Could I use peel and stick tile on top of this?
Would it need some underlayment of some sort first? If so, what?
Peel and stick seems the cheapest and easiest to me, but perhaps one sheet of vinyl flooring would be better.
peel & stick tile over old linoleum?
Re: peel & stick tile over old linoleum?
Won't work, you will soon have big gaps between the tiles.
Keep in mind, the floor covering in the laundry is a code requirement. It protects the floor from water damage, that is why it is all one peice.

You can use peel/stick linoleum on top, by all means. If the existing floor has any holes in it, seal them with anything but silicone (adhesive won't stick). It's better to put something over the old linoleum, if it's in reasonable shape, to give you that moisture protection. I had only tiny gaps between my tiles.

Stay away from peel and stick. Take the time and put down an underlayment and then a sheet of vinyl. Cut a pattern out of craft paper or something and transfer that pattern to the sheet vinyl. Peel and stick is sold as an easy quick way to do a floor, but in a couple years it usually looks like crap.

I used peel and stick tiles in my bathroom. I purchased it at my local Home Depot. It looks wonderful and isn't giving me any problems. I hope you have as much success as I did.

Mary, listen to Mark and the others on peel and stick. We had two tenants who put peel and stick on the floor, without our permission. You will curse the day you ever put it down. I even contacted Armsteong, the mfg. to solve the problem. They had no help. I had to put Sheet Vynal, my choice on top of the ugly mess. Listen to Mark.

I have used peel & stick with some success however it has to be done right.
You have to go down to the bare wood and get it perfectly clean, fill any voids
with a floor leveling compound, sand smooth, remove all dust, seal with armstrong
sealant a milky substance you can buy at lowes/home depot in the flooring dept.
that dries clear, and climatize the flooring to room temp.24 - 48 hours before setting tile. Good luck!
