Flooring

Post by Robert Beuter » Wed Nov 09, 2005 11:47 pm

Hi
My father-law has a 1980 model doublewide. The sub floors have become very spongy and weak. I believe flake or particle board was used back then as sub flooring material instead of plywood. Can a new plywood sub floor be put down directly over this old sub flooring or does the old sub flooring have to be removed first?

It would be best to remove it, to get any moisture out. It wouldn't be that hard to do. Mark et.al. have a good book describing it. I'm sure they'll chime in with a link.

Take a look in the book store at the Floor Repair Info Kit from Aberdeen Repair This kit includes a 25 minute VHS video about repairing the floor, specificly underneath your toilet. The vidio will show you the operations nessessary to replace floor anyplace in your home. Additionaly the kit includes a booklet on floor repair. This is NOT a high-dollar video with actors that wear makeup and every word smoothly rehearsed. However you will see a good-quality video that features a real contractor clearly showing you how to do the job.
