AC freezing up

Post by Joe » Sun Oct 09, 2005 5:09 pm

I live here in Orlando Florida and I have an outside ac unit. I woke up today and the ac coiles and everything I saw was frozen. I had this same problem last year and they chemical cleaned it. This year I want to save the 130 bucks to do it but I was wondering if I spray it with water will it hurt anything? I was wondering why it it freezing up like that? At night when the sun is down the inside of the house gets really COLD but for some reason my bedroom is the coldess, why is that? why is the coldness all over the house.

sorry for so many questions

Ac's freeze up for 2 reasons...1 freon a little low or coils not allowing the free flow of air across them...that is why they did an acid wash of the coils.....Try changing you thermostat to a higher night time setting....The coils are getting too cold in the humid air..causing condensation on them and ice....This will help with the cold bedroom......I assume you have adjustable vents in the ducts...If so close the ones in the coldest room and force the air to the warm rooms....Adjust them as needed....

Ok the tech came out today and I thought it was fixed. The tech chemical cleaned the coils and checked the freon and he claimed the coils were not that bad for it to ice up. The tech said it might be the blower slowing down but he was not sure. When he left he unit was cold coming out but now I went outside and the unit frozed up again! I dont know what it could be and I dont want to pay a ton. Any ideas before the next tech comes?

Thanks alot joe

ok, here is a basic... was the filter dirty? Is the duct work sealed, so as not to get added outside moisture? How old is the unit.... warranty?
