Insulation
Insulation
The salesman told my husband today that R-11 in the walls of our 2X6 walls was as much insulation we would want. We live in northeast Oklahoma. He said If we cramed R-19 between the walls our house would sweat and that would not be good. I felt he was pulling our leg but the way he explained it sounded good and made sense to my husband. So he agreed to go with their R-11. Nothing has been signed yet so that can be changed. I've not read anything about this yet so I was very skeptical. So who is right?
repitch the flat roof
For some reason, there's a flat roof in the center of our house. It's about 500 sf (18X29). All the surrounding roofs are pitched at 5:12 (not 4:12). I am thinking to extend the current pitch all the way to the top. So, basically I need to add some pyramid frames on top of the flat. Could any one give me an idea regarding how much it would cost? I am seeking some contractors, but I would like to have an idea about how much this project will cost.
Thanks !!

Re: repitch the flat roof
Doesn't sound right to me, The more the better I believe is the way to go. Not only for heating but also cooling, besides that what a vapor barrier is for.

Re: Insulation
wals sweeting frome having R19 in the walls if from the home being air tite. being air tite is good but humidity and inside plotutuion can build up what is needed is a Air to Air heat exchanger. this is a devise that exusts the inside air with it's humidity and plotutuion but keeps the heat you payed for.
All of the above said i think the saleman is al wet. It sounds like he had a home he had miss ordered with R11 and wanted to pass it of on to some one.

Re: Insulation
R-11 insulation is 3 1 /2 inches thick, it is used in 2x4 walls. R-19 is 5 1/2 inches
thick, it is used in 2x6 walls. the higher the r-value is the better the insulation value. But you cant put r-19 in 2x4 walls unless you smash it in there but then it does not work right. Insulation has to expand to work.
