decking
decking
Patriot Homes has replaced some decking in our home. We had 3/4 decking and they replaced it with 5/8,Is this the correct way to replace a bad spot in the floor with 1/8 inch thinner decking and fill the edge in with floor level? also when they took the OSB of the wall they had a large gap between the decking and the sill plate and the decking and the wall plate,In all about 1/2 inch. They just drove some wood that looked like panneling in the crack above and below the decking is this a correct repair. Our floor has humps in it.Patriot service people have told me that the 1/8 inch thinner decking is better. But I do not trust them,They have done some awful work so far. Thanks for anyhelp you can give thanks Randy
Re: decking
My only thoughts are, no its not normal. But having said that, its not surprising. It sounds as though you need to make the maufacturer aware of these shoddy repairs. But that is no guarntee they will help. It seems as those who scream and holler the loudest get noticed. Tom
Re: decking
Thanks Tom The only problem it is the manufacturer doing the repairs. Do you know if any of the rest of the manufacturers do this? They are telling us they dont make 3/4 any more.I find that hard to beleave. And would think they could find something closer than 5/8 decking to match up with the 3/4 decking Thanks for your help Randy
Re: decking
If they don't make the 3/4" anymore, then they should use 3/4" plywood to make it the same height. Besides, the plywood would be stronger and more moisture-resistant than whatever they are using now.

Re: decking
There must be something different from MH 3/4 inch OSB decking than standard decking if the MH repair companies say the 3/4 inch material is no longer made! I see it advertised at most major lumber chains. It is also tounge and groove. Someone is pulling someone's chain it seems!
