I would like to place a double wide on a full usuable finished basement. What do I need to know? I would like to use the basement for a gym, laundry room, TV room and a storage room.
Also a few additional questions
I was wondering if the water heater etc could all be placed in the basement?
What excactly would the basement look like? (I would like for it to look as normal as possible.)
Covered ceilings, lots of foundation type colums throughout or an open space?
Would I be able to run all the wiring and pluming from the basement?
Would having a basement be an advantage if I wanted central air conditioning and heating?
The home would be placed in the Northeast Region.
Thanks

Re: Basements
Angel, here is a book that will answer the technical questions http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/basement.htm
The configuration question you have are doable. The plumbing will actually be in your basement ceiling as MH plumbing is in the underbelly. Im not sure I would be rewiring or even if its necessary. Most of your questions can be answered by the installer.
I think the main point here is that once you look over the book and supplement, your biggest problem is going to be finding someone knowledgable or familiar with Mh's and basements in your area. So I would start doing that now. Tom

Re: Basements
I have recently done jsut what you are talking about. Some thinks to consider are: If the metal frame of the modular is going to be kept you may want to have 9' walls poured so you can have some room to hold up the modular. If at all possible get the basement poured before you move the house. We didn't have this luxury and it was costly and limited who we could use for the concrete work
Re: Basements
Shawn,
Did you out a basement under your existing doublewide? We did this, just curious, as to how yours went.

Re: Basements
We have been in our DW for about 8 years and have outgrown the inside. We are thinking of putting in a basement by lifting it up and digging out underneath. Is there anything we should be aware of?. We are really in need of the extra space with three growing children.
