Replace Outside Wall

Post by Bill » Fri Sep 24, 2004 12:14 pm

I have a 1980 mobile home with the ABTJ? (Cedar wood) type wall panels on the
outside of my home, some of the wall panels have become warped from moisture
and/or have become damaged from water around a couple of the windows.

I have found the Cedar wood panels at a local building supply,
the wall panels look like they were nailed into place.

Will replacement of these Cedar panels be as simple as pulling
off the damaged panels and nailing a new panel in place?

Do you have any recommendations for me if I decide to replace the
panels?

Thanks for your help.

If your able to replace your existing panels with the same panels, that's pretty much it -- just pull off the old and nail on the new. If there's a door or window in the panel, you'll want to remove them first. And as you've probably figured, you'll have to remove some of your skirting and possibly a top trim board.

If you run into some rotted wall studs, then nail a new one along side it. If the stud is at a seam then nail one along each side of it. Or you could try and remove it -- but that can open up another can of worms as remember your walls on the inside are nailed to it also.

Good luck!
