I have a addition that was built poorly,(it was here when I purchased the Mobile Home) it is on a cement slab but when I walk on the floor sags and makes strange noises, I pulled up the carpet (Cheap stuff) and want to replace with better carpet but under that is plyboard, it seems like maybe they didn't put in enough support boards that's causing the squeaks, the floor is ok, according to a contractor and won't fall, he could fix but the cost isn't worth...So can I do something myself like maybe put something between the joists (is that what you call them?) maybe that foam expanding type stuff to help with the squeaks ( I was thinking drill a hole and put it in that way, then close the hole??) or do I need to pull up the sub-flooring and put in new support boards? I hope not! Personally I don't think the room is worth to much cost, as I can only use it in spring and fall - summers to HOT and winters to cold. I live in the desert... But I want it to be nice when I do use it...
any suggestions welcome - oh yes, I need to be able to do it myself too.
Thanks
Sandy

Re: addition floor
Sandy, alot has to do with how it was constucted. In order to know what fix will work, you need to determine what the real cause is. The foam will not help, thats for sure. I dont know what the contractor had in mind, but I suspect in order to really fix this, his idea is probably the only one that will really do the job. Tom
Re: addition floor
Shoot, I was trying to think of something, he suggested pulling up entire floor and basically almost start over, I can't afford that at all. I only had him check it out to make sure that I wasn't going to fall through the entire floor someday, he said no it's solid on the cemet pad, he even jumped up and down several times.
Is there any solution you or anyone can think of that would not involve calling a contractor in, something I can do myself. There must be something or not..
thanks again

Re: addition floor
The only thing that comes to mind would be to add blocking under the floor joists and possibly the perimeter. Tom
Re: addition floor
Thanks for the help, I must just do that on some and see if that helps.
