ereamic or vinyl floor coverings

i need to replace kitchen, bathrooms and service porch floors. i'm considering removing the family room carpet. before i choose whatever appeals to me (ceramic tiles, linoleum, vinyl squares, hardwoods or laminates in the family room,), i would like to know the pros and cons of each.
if the house needs releveling will it crack the tiles down the middle or anywhere? if the house shifts will the squares move apart? is linoleum the safest option?
from reading this site, i understand about backerboard under ceramic, but one contractor i spoke to said he did not recommend ceramic.

I do not recommend tile either. If these conditions were met, I might consider it, but even then your likely to have issues later on down the line. It is not an install and forget it type of installation. On a cement pad, no additions on the home, and installed by a professional. The homeowner installed tile is where we see the most problems. It must be installed correctly, without fail.

Just about any other flooring option will work, pergo is now becoming popular. But again, correct intallation is essential. But you are correct linoleum is almost failsafe. Tom

thanks tom, for the info. i live in los angeles county in california and know it is mandatory for mobile homes to be permanently tied down, but i don't know if that means concrete pad, concrete slab, or what? i will have a professional do the job and was leaning toward ceramic tile, but i will have to find out what is under there.
