LEVELING AND HARDBOARD SIDING

Post by RAYMOND GILDER » Thu Sep 18, 2003 4:10 am

I HAVE A SINGLE WIDE MH AND THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE HOUSE HAS SETTLED AND IT IS NOW UNLEVEL. I WANTED TO KNOW THE BEST WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WANTED TO KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO HAVE IT PROFESSIONALLY REPAIRED. THE HOME ALSO HAS THE HARDBOARD SIDING ON IT AND IT IS FALLING APART BUT ONLY ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE HOUSE. SOME OF THE SIDING ON THE BACK IS STILL GOOD AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF I SHOULD REMOVE THE GOOD PANELS AND USE THEM TO REPLACE A FEW BAD PANELS ON THE FRONT. AND I AM THINKING OF USING T1`11 SIDING TO REPLACE THE HARDBOARD SIDING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT IS A GOOD IDEA. ANY HELP AND SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATTED.

A professional re level for a single wide would run in the area of $200 to $400. My opinion on the siding is, if you have rotten siding you may have even more problems behind it. The siding that appears to be good now, wont be in the future. If you want to do this correctly and not have to worry about it in the near future, get the whole house done now. One note on the re level. Ask the person you call if they use a water level. If they tell you no, they use a 10 foot level on the frame, tell them thank you and move on. Use only a person who uses a water level, its the only true and accurate way to level a MH.

Q.You now what a 10 foot level is good for?

A.About 10 feet.
