Gentlemen,
I have a '97 Fleetwood 28' x 56' DW. I want to install a 6:12 roof over the existing 3:12 roof plus add covered porches front and back.
House is located in Wind Zone 1 and set on rock/caliche (west Texas). Foundation settling is not an issue. Exterior walls are 2x4 16"OC w/ fiberboard sheeting and vinyl siding.
Plan is to use scissors trusses set on existing roof, centered on studs, plus construct conc. block perimeter wall (skirt?). New roof load path would be through existing truss ends (reinforced), then top plate, then studs, then bottom plate, then conc perimeter wall.
Nailer for porch floor attached to perimeter wall. Nailer for porch roof attached to existing wall.
I "believe" the existing studs would handle the vertical loads but I'm concerned about the increased shear loads vs. the fiberboard sheeting. One solution is to selectively replace sections of fiberboard with 3/4 ply.
Appreciate you comments re the practicallity/feasibility of this project any leads on a structural engineer who could verify this concept.
Repitch roof plus covered porches
Re: Repitch roof plus covered porches
On paper it sounds good to me also. I can only say that if your local building inspector agrees with your proposal, your in good shape. Good luck. I would like to see pictures of this project if you decide to do it. Please send them to me at [email protected]
