Commodore Homes & Creative Housing of East Lansing

I bought a Commodore home in December of 2003. Up until today, August 4, 2004, I still cannot live in that house. Commodore Homes of Indiana refuses to monitor or supervise Bob Tyler of Creative Housing of East Lansing, MI who is the contractor putting the modular on the site. Of course the house was driven to the property in January. They collected their money but with months of inactivity, construction errors with the basement, minor repairs being botched the county has not passed the inspection for occupancy. COMMODORE HOMES DOESN'T ANSWER CALLS, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ONCE THEY HAVE THEIR MONEY. BOB TYLER OF CREATIVE HOUSING OF EAST LANSING DOES NOT CARE ABOUT KEEPING PROMISES OR SCHEDULES. HE IS CONCERNED ABOUT SAVING A BUCK AND HIRES LACKEYS WHO ONLY WORK WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT AND OFTEN PERFORM WORK IN AN INFERIOR MANNER. I will never recommend these companies. I will be glad to give anyone more details about my dealings with them.

I am afraid that issues like this will be seen more and more in the modular home business...Unfortunately the industry does not have any government over site like manufactured homes have with HUD...There is no government help for you just like there is none for those who buy stick built home...

Your only hope might be found with the agency that licenses general contractors in your state...have you contacted them for help and info about the laws????????

Actually..Commodore has no power over the builder...just like Home Depot or Lowe's have no power over the builder that buys his supplies from them...If this were a stick home..I doubt you would be calling them for help...your issue is with the builder...you might need an attorney skilled in this area to help you...Good Luck

I slightly disagree. The manufacturer does have authority over the builder. They chose which builders sell their homes. So they can withdrawl there product from a builder that does bad work.
Also, the state of MI issued a seal to that home, they can get involved. But you are right, to push the builder is hard.
These issues often have to be settled in court.

I would agree with murray. Commodore home is actually a sub-contractor for your builder. If they delivered what you ordered, they fulfilled their part of the agreement. Your strongest recourse is with your finance company. They are the ones who can withhold payment to the builder. Even though they have received payment, there should still be a balance not paid until certificate of occupancy is issued. Try complaining to the local building inspector, he can make your builder's life miserable. Also, you may want to contact Mr. Greene's office at the Michigan Deepartment of Construction Codes and Fire Safety. He is Michigan's top regulator for builders and codes and he is a very helpful person.

The fact that Commodore may choose never to sell this builder another home does not help this person....Commodore is not the one at fault here..the builder is...

Actually I know little about Commodore Homes...but this tread started by blaming Commodore for builder problems..

The trick to modular homes like this is to check out the builder...the manufacturer is only a supplier of materials..much like Home Depot is to a stick builder....If the home is installed correctly...Commodore will warranty the package for a year..then individual materials will have their own longer warranties..

the trick is to check out the builder/dealer a lot...be sure his previous customers have been treated well...
