Hello Cyndee

Through out the 1980s, for most homes built in Florida, the Serial Number was etched into the front bumper of the home... That is the black steel flat area where the hitch was attached to the home.

Additionally there should be a red tag on the end of the home opposite the hitch, that is the rear of the home as it goes down the road. This tag is the HUD construction certification and has a unique number.

If you home is double wide you will see a tag on the rear of each half. While this number is NOT the serial number you can contact the office listed below to cross reference the serial number

Tidwell put the data plate with the serial # inside the closet usually in the master bedroom but you can also check in the kitchen cabinets ....if you do not find it in either of these places....go outside to the tongue end of the home ...on the metal chassis the serial # will be stamped in it....this home being an 85 you my have to look very close to find it due to some rust....you can use WD-40 to spay on the # to make it readable ...the best i remember about these homes ,the # ran up and down

There has to be a title to this home somewhere...Title records can be searched by name..If you are lucky the person you are buying this home from is the original owner and you can have their name searched at the local title office...

Florida also has a procedure for a totally lost title and serial number..The state has a procedure to issue a new title and add a new serial number...If you have any good employees at the title office they can tell you the proceedure...I will take some time..but not a lot of money..
