Mobilehome transport AZ to CA

Post by wendy » Sun Mar 20, 2005 11:54 pm

I am looking into purchasing a mobilehome in Arizona and transporting it to Central CAlifornia. I have discovered I can purchase the same home in AZ considerably cheaper.

Where would I look to find out how much to expect for transport and set up costs?

Please advise.

Thank you.
Wendy

Don't know who you're dealing with, but we dealt with a Palm Harbor dealership in Chino Valley AZ, who were willing to sell us a home in Southern Nevada. The transport was included in the cost of the home, the setup contractor we had to bring in as a private contractor. Unfortunately, we got a bad apple with this crew, they keep stalling and asking Palm Harbor for more money. (Everyone else has been great) so to tell you what they charged would be meaningless. Plus we're doing the Suresafe system mentioned in Randy Eaton's book, which was a little more expensive.
But basically, if your experience is anything like ours, if you live that far away from the dealership where you are buying from, you will end up being your own general contractor, so the best thing to do will be to call setup contractors in your area and find out what they charge. You also don't mention what utilities are already at your site...will you need power? A well? A septic tank?
I purchased Eaton's book on this website, and it was a great starting point. Takes you through the entire process, step by step.

Yes ! Randy's book, "How To Buy A Manufactured-Mobile Home And Save Thousands Of Dollars" is a good place to start and it is available in our book store in both hardbound and e-book editions. For many the main attraction to owning a manufactured home is the price. Randy Eaton overcomes this using his years of experience in manufactured housing to show prospective MHome owners the real advantages to modern MH ownership. Now you can share the information that has helped hundreds of buyers make informed decisions with confidence and peace of mind. more detailsThe author recently combined both of his best selling books, " How To Buy A Manufactured Home And Save Thousands" with his, "Manufactured Home Comparison Guide" into one book. It seemed many readers where intersted in both subjects. Now consumers can learn how to save thousands when purchasing a manufactured home along with Randy Eaton's comparison guide, which rates over 50 of the most popular builders in the United States.
E-books make great gifts that can be downloaded instantly and printed for instant reading. Check out the entire MH E-book collection

just did that myself and saved big time money. We picked model then shopped dealers thruout west for best deal. Made the deal including shipping thru dealer but had to get my own contractors. Be very carefull. Many are schlocks and will desert you for their local dealers projects. We needed, engineer to design installation and get permits, excavator, septic installer, well driller, concrete foundation and stemwall contractor, installer who puts the sections together, drywaller, and another transporter as the installer wouldnt move my 3 sections 500 ft from where the truckers dropped them to the foundation. Overall, we saved even more money because I could shop price by contractor instead of going with the dealers flat package where they make money on the install also. If you have patience and shop hard, you can save big time money or get a nicer house. good luck

What most people call this 'savings' is FOB. Buy it at base price from the delaerships' factory -- like factory expo -- and not include any delivery or set-up costs (which their are plenty).

Not only does it appear the customer is geting a steal (on the lower price without freight & set-up), but the liability is 100% on the cusomer (the dealerships' $1million dollar policy never takes effect). FOB is a nightnmare waiting to happen, Buy from a trusted dealer that can itemize all your expenses--do not shortchange yourself on the interm.

I am a Transporter based in Arizona, latelly we have been swamped with calls to transport to CA. from the factories based here, There are two things, number one those of us who do factory transports carry very very high liability insurance something MOST of the smaller companies don't do the banks will not allow them to transport unless they carry a min. 6 million liability and 750k cargo etc...

Second due to Californias new governor it is VERY costly in taxes against out of state trucks for us to cross into California therefore only two very large companies are willing to do so, the rest of us can only run to the California border this is the same for Calirornia based transporters to an extent, HOWEVER there is a way around this you must use an Arizona based transporter registered with the factory to get the home from the factory to the California border there is a 5 mile buffer zone between the two ports of entry where the Az. based truck passes through the Az. port of entry with no extra fees as its an Az. based commercial truck but he most stop BEFORE he gets to the California port of entry otherwise your homes price just went up $4,000 or more now heres where you save that money the California based truck can pass through the Ca. port of entry without any extra fees so he meets the Az. truck and takes possesion of the home turns around and heads back to California without reaching the Arizona port of entry where he'd be charged extra fees.....

The catch? You have to deal with two seperate transporters in Arizona the average for a class C (14'1" oer wider home) is a $350 hookup and $2.50 per mile (this is per floor or section) these are very speacialized trucks and as mentioned we must carry much higher insurance than a regular freight truck as EVERY load we carry is a speacial load etc...

I am currently trying to locate a California based transporter close to Blyth or Yuma to handle the California side of the run, the two large companies who normally do the direct transports get an aditional $4k to make this direct run this is passed on to the home buyer hence your higher prices etc...

Anyone intrested in saving a few dollars can reach me at 520-270-4752 or by e-mail

as far as transporting homes across multiple state lines.... you really are better off to simply sell one house and buy another closer to home as the costs of these transports are very high you have to pay the drivers extra for each overnight plus additional permits and the pilot car drivers get additional fees etc... it all adds up to quite a bit of money versus just selling and buyin another house......
