moving expense for a used home

Post by Dave Hall » Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:14 am

Hi Chrissy,

I live in New Hampshire, and my father is building a double-wide park. (It's a family business, my grandfather built the first park.)

I have the option on the best lot, rent free. I would have to pay 50-100 per month for water bill.

My wife and I need a LOT of room, after 15 years together, and we were thinking modular, with upstairs on a foundation to finish later. We have recently decided though to go with a good double-wide, and I have been searching the classifieds for a good deal.

Here is the issue;

I found the perfect home well within our price range. It is a 32x80, 4 brooms, 3baths, island kitchen, den, office, playroom, family room, living room, etc. and the price is great.

But the home is about 750 miles away. What do you estimate it would cost for the move?

I would drive down with a few guys and prep the home for removal, and I would set it here. I just need to know the cost to move the home 750 miles, and I believe it would cost more for a 32' wide than a 28' wide, because of transport rules.

Anyway, tell me what you think.

Thanks!

My very rough estimate is $2000 to $2500, however my best advice to you is to contact Morgan Transport or someone who will be able to do the work for you. Obviously, this home is not currently in Vermont. Permits will be inovlved. In some states escorts will be required and that increases the cost significantly for the two halves. Some states will not allow you to move the home if back taxes are owed. Good luck to you!

32 wides run about $10/mile with permits and required escorts...I hope this is a very good deal..likely there will be NO warranty service available..Remember you would be moving this home outside the regulr market area of the manufacturer..This means they will not have effective service system...

I know this is a very old post, but I am researching the same thing as Dave Hall. I was wondering what companies I would even start to check with on doing some thing like this.

Thanks,
Sandy
