Homeowner's associations
Homeowner's associations
What is your opinion of homeowner associations? Is this a good thing for the community and the management or not? The community I live in is thinking about starting one but no one has any experience with this area and I am looking to get some information. Any input would be appreciated!
Re: Homeowner's associations
I had thought about starting one here but haven't done anything as I think many of the residents fear eviction, should they anger the park owner. Nobody wants to cough up another $1500 to move their mobile home into a new park! In theory it sounds like a good idea--people would care more about the park they live in and take more pride in their community. I could see where the park owners might look at it as a threat--but if it is presented in the right way it could benefit the residents, the community, and the owner. Your post gives me the motivation to perhaps get back into this.
Re: Homeowner's associations
Homeowner's associations can be either a detriment to community togetherness (the relationship between the manager and the residents) or a terrific help for both groups. It depends on the attitudes of the people creating the relationship. First, determine if there is a state-based homeowner's association in your state. If there is, they will provide you with materials and information for organizing. Talk with the residents to determine the need or reasons for organizing. What do you want to accomplish? What will the organizaton provide you that you do not currently have? Will you go so far as to incorporate or just get a group of people together? Is your purpose for social activities or for something else? Discuss your intent with your manager and share your reasons for organizing. Do be aware of your state laws with regard to eviction. Even though retaliation should not be part of management, there are times when professional management is not in place.
Re: Homeowner's associations
Thanks for the reply. I think such an association could be beneficial to the community (both owner and homeowners) if presented in the right way. The primary purpose would not be to rile the owner by questioning rules and regulations or rate increases, although I imagine these issues would come up from time to time. I agree it would be a good idea to check on eviction laws!
