Manufacturer

I am a Realtor in Oklahoma. I have sold a manufactured house that was put on a perm. foundation. Unfortunately, the Manufacturer's tag has been removed. That is an automatic decline by FHA for financing. Can you help me find out who the manufacturer was. The Make of the house is a "Shiloh". It was manufactured in 1981

Which tag are you refering to? The red tag on the outside is the HUD label. Somewhere inside the home, maybe near the electric panel or inside of a kitchen cabinet door, possibly under the kitchen sink, or even in a bedroom closet,, there should be a "data plate" or "compliance certificate". this will tell you all about the home and who made it.

OK - here is the definitive answer for which I was searching. Thanks for Frank Walter, Vice President of Technical Activities of the Manufactured Housing Institute, for his expertise and quick reply. Frank says:

A 1983 list of trade names shows that the Shiloh manufactured home was being produced by a firm that is long since out of business:
Winston Homes, Inc., of Double Springs, AL, where the Shiloh homes were produced.
Their parent company was Tidwell Industries of Haleyville, AL, also no longer in business, since 1986.

In Double Springs, the only present manufacturer is Southern Energy Homes. We have no idea if anyone connected with Southern Energy Homes has an knowledge where the Shiloh Homes records are located. However, we know that manufacturers periodically destroy old records, so we doubt that the owner of the 1981 Shiloh manufactured home will have success in the search. In any event, unless the owner finds the serial number of the home, he/she likely is out of luck.

The “tag” that has been removed is likely the manufacturer’s certification label(if it is a double-section home, there are two labels); it/they could have been removed for any number of reasons. Inside the home, there should be a “data plate,” the laminated white sheet of paper that contains a wealth of information, including the name and address of the manufacturer, and the serial number and date of manufacture. The data plate is, as you know, located near the main electrical panel or perhaps on the wall of a walk-in closet. If the data plate is found in the home, that should provide the information needed by FHA.
