Thanks for the advice! We have retained a lawyer (as of Wed 11/10) and he began the steps to either get the money back or get the home. I didn't know or think about the bonding thing, I'm sure the lawyer will look into it, but I'll run it by him just in case. He seems to be pretty familiar with this sort of thing.

This is a modular home. Approx. 3 years old and maybe 4 before we actually get it, if we get it at all 8)

He has until the end of next week to make good on the house or the money. It's just a waiting game now. At the end of next week, we move on and decide to stick build on the basement or order another home.

It's getting cold here in Wisconsin, so in the meantime we will need to prepare the basement floor and walls for exposure to the elements. Not to mention the new house, whether stick built or modular or panelized, will be built in the cold - I feel bad for the people working in it!!!

Once again - remember to get references - 30 minutes on the phone could save you a lot of time and heartache later!!!

I wanted to share some information from our experience. We waited 5 months for the installer to come out and put our home on the foundation AFTER the foundation was done. The home was on our property, etc. My sis had a manufactured home placed and had absolutely no problems. The difference? She hired a private contractor to place her home, we went through the place that sold the manufactured home. If your home is not yet placed, you may want to call a few contractors in your area and ask if they specialize in placing manufactured homes...be sure to get quotes. Your lawyer should be able to get the seller to remove all costs associated with placement so you can pay the other contractor...ALSO, you should have a very itemized listing of all the costs of placing the home...there were many items on ours that they never did--i.e., bring a port-a-potti to the site. We fought and got back $4500 due to items that they did not do.
