NO ONE WILL LISTEN

Post by KEN » Thu Jul 01, 2004 10:03 pm

WE LIVE IN A 2001 DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME, AND WERE TOLD WE HAVE ROCK WOOL INSULATION BLOWING THRU OUR HOME FROM THE FURNACE. IT IS BECAUSE THE GYPSUM AROUND THE FURNACE EXHAUST'
IS GAPPED FROM THE CEILING WITHIN THE FURNACE COMPARTMENT. EVERY DAY I CAN SWEEP AND OUR WIND TUNNEL SWEEPER HAS GRAY MATERIAL WITH SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE GREY SAND IN IT. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THEY FIXED IT AND IT SHOULD DISAPPEAR. IT HAS BEEN SINCE APRIL 2,04 AND WE STILL HAVE THE SAME THING.
WE ALSO, HAVE DUCT CROSSOVER RESTING DIRECTLY ON THE GROUND.
PLASTIC SHIPPING MATERIAL REMAINS ON THE MARRIAGE LINE, OUR SLIDING GLASS DOOR IS OUR OF SQUARE. THE FOOTINGS ARE UNDERSIZED. NUMEROUS PIERS DO NOT COMPLETELY SIT ON THE THE FOOTINGS. SHIMS PRESENT AT THE TOP OF THE PIERS ARE PLACED ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE MAIN BEAM. THE CENTERLINE COLUMN SUPPORT IS MISSING AT THE END OF THE HOME UNDER THE PORCH. WE HAVE LIVED THRU PURE H......... WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT BREATHING IN THIS ROCK WOOL OR WHAT EVER IT IS, PLUS WE WORRY ABOUT THE HOME IN GENERAL DUE TO ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE DISCOVERED.
WHY WON'T ANYONE GET INVOLVED BECAUSE IT IS A MOBILE HOME?
I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME IN ANY WAY, WE SOUGHT AN ATTORNEY, AND ALL WE HEAR IS HOW MUCH AN EXPERT ENGINEER WILL BE TO COME IN AND WRITE A REPORT ON ALL THAT IS WRONG. THIS IS OUR HOME, WE ARE IN OUR LATE 50'S AND I AM ON PARTIAL DISABILITY, WE NEED ADVISE NOW BEFORE WALLS, CEILINGS, ROOF, NEED REPAIR.
MANY THANKS

dave

Ken;

You mention that the year model of your home is a 2001.Did you purchase it used or as a repo.? If it is used it will most likely not have a warranty. Most of the problems you describe here seem related to a poor set-up.I don't know what state you are in but generally set-up is regulated by a state agency and you should have some recourse there.

Ken,
you have a mess. It is a shame that you need the state to correct an industry problem. Too bad you didn't buy a modular home.

Eugene, You still need a manufacturer and a dealer with a modular home so I don't see your point. With any home, site built, modular, panel or MH you can have trouble if you go in without enough information and don't get a reputable mfr and dealer. The modular concept is nice but far from problem proof as is any type of construction. You really need to get a life instead of going to a site and fan the flame instead of trying to offer support and solid suggestions. The big benefit to a site like this is to gain the knowledge to make a wise decision.
It sounds like the home needs to be reset by someone who knows what they are doing. Living with the problem and expecting the dealer to take care of it will just make the matter worse.

Gee, so this guy has to pay twice to have a home set? Doesn't that little red label mean anything?
It says the home complies with the Federal standards!
Mods comply with state standards and are NOT premept from state codes like mobiles are. that is the difference!
instead of gripping at me, why not try to push the manufacturers to qualify and train their dealers? And when the home owner has a problem, have the manufacturer direct the dealer to fix it? Like this guys heat duct on the ground. Do you think the manufacturer ever told this dealer to properly support the heat duct? I seriously doubt it!
Sorry, you don't like my comments, but I have seen way too many people get screwed because of finger pointing in the manufactured home side, Modular producers by and large respond much more professionally.
At least in the Northeast US.

ON 7-02-4 I WROTE ABOUT NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO OUR PROBLEM WITH THE 2001 DOUBLE WIDE I PURCHASED. WE LIVE IN PA. THE GROUND WAS NOT GRADED FOR WATER NOT TO RUN UNDER IT...THE PIERS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE HOME...THE DUST I WROTE ABOUT WAS DIAGNOSED AS CELLULOSE...THE CROSS OVER WAS NOT INSTALLED BY THE DEALER BUT THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THE DEALER DIDN'T INSTALL ONE WHEN IT WAS SET UP AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY TRIP TO GET HEAT IN THE HOME...SO IT HAS BEEN ON THE GROUND FOR 2 YEARS....THE HEAT TAPES WERE ALSO ON THE GROUND AND THE WATER THAT IS RUNNING UNDER THE HOME FROZE UP LAST YEAR..HOME NEEDED LEVELED SOMETMES EVERY TWO WEEKS...STILL AFTER GOING ON 3 YEARS STILL CRACK LIKE METAL ON METAL WHEN YOU WALK....FURNACE SO LOUD YOU CAN'T TALK OR LISTEN TO T.V.
OH YES, WE GOT HUD INVOLVED AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED THINGS...
I WORRY ABOUT THE WALLS, CEILINGS, FLOORS, ETC ..BECAUSE OF THE MOISTURE UNDER THE HOME, AND THE IMPROPER SET UP....CAN YOU BELIEVE THE PARK OWNER WHO HAS THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THIS FROM, RAISED OUR RENT $20.80 MORE A MONTH THEN ANYONE ELSE IN THE PARK AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SAID IT WAS OK TO DO SO...WE AND ALL AROUND US KNOWS IT IS RETALIATION AND IN OUR MINDS A FORM OF DISCRIMINATION.....
