Demo vs Removal

We are looking into getting a new mobile. We have run into a dilema, which might baloon into a real problem. I currently have a '76 mobile that Ihave done some extensive remodeling in. As I spoke with the seller he said he would remove the old mobile as long as it was road worthy. Well .... the remodeling I have done has left one outer side with 2 openings, at least 10 ' wide, each. Also the end has been opened into a sunken living room, so there are only center beams, where the trailers join. So basically it not much more than a shell now.

My question is, should I incur any cost to make it road ready to remove it. OR just demo it onsite and haul out the steel frames ???

I have enough friends that I think I could have it down in a day easy.

Also, I have replaced all the windows with thermal double panes, upgraded sinks, toilets, etc. They won't take it if I gut it, so I could pull all that stuff out and resell it, maybe to cover the costs of the demo ????

The dealer has no interest in such a home...he will remove only to be able to get your new sale...I would not spend money to make it road worthy...I would demo...get a construction refuse container from your local waste company (should be about $300)...salvage what ever you think has value...Hurry so you can begin enjoying your new home..Good Luck

Hey Chuck - Anything you can't get rid of (that is still good) windows, sinks, ecetera, check out your local habitat for humanity Restore. You will get a tax deduction and help Habitat build homes.

The ReStore is a thrift store for building supplies. They have everything from doors and windows to paint and light fixtures, even roof rafters. This is the link to their index to see if they have a store near you.

There's a prime example of why MH's are not worth the money. 29 year old home just going to get demolished. That's not that old of a home. As for your dealer, don't be surprised if he takes that home down the road to the nearest run down mobile home park and sell's it to the owner for whatever he can get. They'll probably fix it up a bit then rent it for $500 a mth. I've been there.

Well yeah that does seem silly BUT- they were not built to the same quality in 1976 as they are in 2004!!

very true, but in 2033 when the 2004 model is 29 yrs old, it wouldn't surprise me, if said house was being demoed too. While I bet the site built 76 home is still being lived in.Not unusual for people to live in 57 year old homes.

We are purchasing some property that has two mobile homes on it. We will be getting rid of them to put on three, new MHs. They are still livable. The differece between the two as far as how nice they are has SOOOO much to do with the upkeep that was given to these homes.

I am so glad that the homes on the property are not site built homes because they would be a lot more expensive to remove and we WOULD still be removing them to build our new home. The mobiles that are there have many old but useful things that we will be donating. They were not set on permanent foundations but they can't be moved to other land because they have pretty bad termite damage (and I KNOW that is a site built issue too.)

I thought you were buying a MH? Or site built? I understand you have to remove them to put the new MH in place, I'm curious. Did you decide against MH?

I need some help with this.

My mom bless her heart got me a mobile home for me and my roommate because we had jobs in that town, so in stead of driving 30 mins it was only 15. Now we lost those jobs and have new ones that caused us to move north. Now I'm having her sell it while I pay the monthly rent on it, and it's getting taxing on us because we need the money to pay other bills.

What do I do? Is there someone I can call to have it moved and scraped for free or someone welling to buy it for a 1000.00. It's a handymans speical. It's a two bedroom one bath single wide.
