Addition to an existing structure

Jim Fischer in Pittsburgh apparently asked about an office addition to a 2-story house some time ago. We are also interested in a modular ex[ansion; adding bedrooms and extra baths to a 24x40 one room 1955 pre-fab summer cabin on a steep wooded mountainside in the Berkshires (upstate NY). Our concerns are whether we have to have a unit with a kitchen (we have one already), and how such an addition would be tied in to the existing structure. We have envisaged a sort of breezeway linking the two structures, possibly allowing the new addition to go up without tearing into the integrity of the present building. Construction in that part of the world is very chancy and finishing a project in one season is not to be counted on. The Clayton Homes website does not give any clue as to whether such products as "classrooms", "offices" or other non-home structures are available that far north.
