Looking to buy in 2007

Post by Tigger-ttfn » Sun Aug 21, 2005 5:01 pm

Hi

I will be finishing up with school in two years and would like to buy a manufactured home after I graduate. Over the next two years I will be able to put aside $1,000 a month. I am interested in buying a doublewide home somewhere around 2000-2400 square feet.

My questions

1. Would approx. $24,000 be enough for a downpayment? I am most interested in home - land options.

2. Also if I decided four or five years down the line after actually living in the home to have it set on a basement on the same property could that be done.? Or is it a once its set thats it kinda deal? I was considering pit set if it can be done but if not having it set on a concrete foundation.

3. Is the house more sturdy if it is set on a basement and does that make it easier for repairs? Is a concrete foundation more sturdy?

4.On a another site I read where a person had steel beams instead of wood put in there home is that possible?

5. Anyone got any information on land home options in lower upstate NY or NJ
( close to NY).

On a side note.
Did anyone catch that report on the news about the mobile homes in California that are going for 1 million dollars. They did some major upgrades to the inside of those homes.

Thanks!

Graet planning...24K will be about 20 times the amount most young folks have to START...Try to help us lod folks..how do you save $1000/mo while a student???

Basement shou7ld be done when you get the home...

Properly built permenaent dfoundations are very sturdy...Basements are no more..all they do is add useable storage or recreation space..

Stell studs are not available in the continental US on HUD homes..I have read there is a builder in Hawaii that uses them..

The only info I have on these locastions is that it is cold as it can get...be sure you have a snow blower...

I read about the homes in CA..ONLY PROVES WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN HERE OFTEN>>>>>Resale is all a function of condition and LOCATIO..LOCATION..LOCATION..

Hi rmurray

Thanks for the info on the foundations. I was considering a basement because it seems like it would be easier to do repairs since everything is run underneath the house.

How does that work if I use a concrete foundation?

How do I save $1,000 dollars as a studen? Easy HARD WORK! I searched until I found a good paying graveyard shift job and go to school during the day.

So would $24,000 be enough or would I need more? I have good credit.

Thanks

You have planty of cash for a purchase..most are buying with as little as $500 cash out of pocket today...

A permanent foundation will be about..24 inches high...thatr will leave working room under the home...just keep your tummy from expanding too far..like many of us have done...
