Palm Harbor Manf. Problems (Pipes)

Post by 3 Bears Ranch » Sat Apr 10, 2004 1:14 pm

To All Fellow Palm Harbor Owners:

Does anyone have any ideas for the odors that eminate from the plastic pipes, mainly under the sinks, in the bathrooms?

Our home is a little over 4yrs. old, and my husband vented the pipes when he realized that they had not been vented; however we STILL have MAJOR PROBLEM, with DISGUSTING ODORS, that are continually eminating from the pipes.

I can't help but think that the septic smelling odors, may be hazardous to one's health. Sometimes the are almost unbearable. I've tried lighting candles, and used potpourri, but this obviously does not solved the problem, just masks it.

It is possible that we are having a dual problem as the water from our well also contains a very sulfuric odor.

Does anyone who owns one of these have any ideas, or can they offer anything that they have done with their's to change this problem, or is this a problem unique to our family only? I can't imagine?

Thanks in advance for ANY replies,
Mama Bear :o)

When you say under the sinks, does the P trap have water in it?

If your plumbing has inside vents instead of roof vents, your problem could be
from the well water.

I owned a 1992 Buccaneer that had inside vents for the plumbing, and also had
a well that had water with a high sulpher content. The smell would get the worst
when hot water was run. After the county ran water lines to our area, we hooked
into the county water supply. The problem with the bad water and odor was
history.

If a municipal water supply is not an option, try finding and installing a taste and
odor water filtration system.

good luck

The other repies here make some sense...I doubt the problem is with the home...but with the water..

A quality water filter for your well would cost about $150..and filters would have to be change once in a while...I would suggest you try this...if nothing else..it will fix the water problem...and probably fix the oder problem..

I heard that some builders don't ventilate the plumbing out of the house. Instead, they will ventilate into the roof. That smell probably wasn't noticable for a while until the fumes had totally consumed the roof area, now it just back up into each other. Any if this is your problem, I'll also bet it gets even worse when it is really hot outside.

All manufactured homes sewer vents vent to the outside of the home..There are some sewer line air vents that allow air into the line for easy flow that are under counter...No home would vent sewer vent gas into the roof...unless the roof was also vented to the outside..
