Oklahoma - Tired of Looking

Post by Ray » Sat Jul 31, 2004 5:09 pm

.....but decided on buying a 17x70 Saratoga / Clayton to put on our lake property. In discussons w/ Jim Russell Homes of Muskogee at the moment. Now that we've decided on a Clayton....all I is seem to see is bad reports on various discussion lists. Soooooo tired of hearing "XXXX is the Cadillac of Manufactured Housing" and similiar lines. Just want a quality home that will hold up well in northeast Oklahoma. We will semi-retire in this puppy......and I simply don't want to walk into a problem. Welcome any and all comments re: Dealer and selection. Looks as if they'te going to come in around 30K w/composite roof, storm windows, sliding door and a few other interior upgrades. Thanks...Ray

Clayton is now the largest manufacturer in the country....They are one of the strongest financially in the country...They make vast amounts of money in finance and insurance...of course you can shop finance and insurance..but most customers do not...you should..

Clayton builds the full range of homes from some of the most basic..to some of the best..the price range you mention seems to be in the middle of the pack..a decent home..not the BMW..

Thank you, Murray. We will probably handle the fiancing ourselves. I am interested in learning about their "BMW. We have a size restriction, must be a single wide (any width is fine - but no double wide)...about 70 ft in length is as long as we can go (trees). Any paticulars you might have to offer re:model or options I should check out w/Clayton would be great. Plan to go through this exercise one time (hopefully). Regards...Ray

Their web site is not too useful here...Clayton has at least 5 plants within reach of your location (4 in TX and 1 in KS)...Each of these plants will build a different home..some might have even a different name...such as Schult..Marlette...Golden West..Norris..

The highest quality single sections in this size..16x70...will probably be a little higher priced...most of the best Clayton owned product is built under a different name...You will have to ask the dealer if they handle more than one product..what upgrades are available...compare with other dealers...compare the building specs carefully..Best construction in this size will be 2x8 floor joists on 16 inch centers..3/4 inch plywood floors..2x4 interior walls on 16 inch centers..roof rafters on 16 inch centers...30 year shingles...all wood cabinets...insulation..r-33 roof..r-19 walls..r-21 floors...even the vinyl siding comes in different grades and thicknesses...This quality list goes on and on...
