Aquariums in Manufactured Homes

Post by Kim » Fri Jul 04, 2003 6:47 pm

Hi everyone, First I'd like to thank you all for posting your opinions. I have learned so much from this site. My husband and I are looking for a manufactured home to put upon our 15 acres. I've looked all over this site and I have a question that I'm sure has never been asked, how well can a mobile home stand up to having almost 3000lbs of aquariums in it? I have quite a few aquariums and it all adds up to about this much. Any advice would be great. Thanks so much!

As for the technical side of your question, I really don't know. I would imagine a manufactured home could handle that much weight without too much problems. Then again, it will come down to the floor and sub floor used in the home itself. While 2X6's are standard in most homes, several manufacturers do offer 2X8 and 2X10 options. We've checked into upgrading to 2x8's in the floor to be more solid, and it really wasn't all that much more with the manufacturer we talked to. It amounted to about $500 to $600 more. Well worth it if you ask me.

If it is several aquaiums as you said..there should be no problem at all...Just be sure you do not get pressboard floors...only OSB or plywood...

For those of us who post here often...I appreciate your effort to search the posts on the board...The search function here can be a wealth of fast information..

Now...go out and buy that home..Good Luck

I have a few aquariums in my doublewide. It was built in 1988. The heaviest is a 55 gal tank. Can I put a 125 gal tank in where the two side connect?
