Is anyone familiar with or have purchased a home by Sunshine Homes? If so, how do you like the home.....is it well constructed, energy effidient, etc.? Also, Sunshine Homes touts that it uses yellow pine in the construction of its homes rather than spruce or fir. It claims yellow pine is stronger and heavier that spruce or fir. Any validity to this claim?

Another subject....what makes a "high end home" a high end home. Is it construction or interior appointments that make it more expensive?

I am not familiar with Sunshine homes. Yellow pine is superior to spruce or fir. It is denser and stronger. As long as they are not using smaller boards or incresing the spacing, yellow pine makes for a stronger house.

Thanks for the info about the yellow pine. This particular manufacturer, according to their printed material, is not skimping on board size or spacing, so, that is a plus, I guess. I am told that next to Wick, this company probably has about the heaviest homes in the market. According to a ratings group, Sunshine homes has a "good" reputation on backing up their warranties. I know that a dealer can make all the difference in the world. I think I have stumbled on a pretty good dealer. they seem to be very honest and upfront when answering questions, and it appears they don't gouge customers when they ask for upgrades. I have asked for rough pricing from a number of different dealers, and most of them are around twice as high as this one on various upgrades that I've asked about. Also, for what it's worth, in all of their advertising they state, "closed on Sunday in honor of our Lord". How often do you hear that from a business anymore? They must get a lot of business, because they have somewhere around 25+ models on their lot to walk through, and I've learned that they have placed homes all over Iowa and some in Missouri, Illinois, and Minnesota as well.

Sunshine is a smaller builder that builds a nice, well constructed home. They do not have a lot of flash but are a nice home and use to have their own service people that took care of any problems, I don't know if that is still the case.

Why not look into Wick housing for your home? they build a very nice home.
