Glad I passed
Glad I passed
I'm very happy after finding this forum that I passed on getting a m-home years ago. Scary stories here indeed.
What about modular homes? What are the differences?
Thanks!

Re: Glad I passed
Manufactured..modular...stick built..ALL have consumers that are not happy...Most manufactured home builders have CSI ratings of 85% or higher...even the worse companies are over 80%...Some run as high as 95%...No product has 100% CSI (customer satisfaction rating)...
Remember the few negative comments you find here are just that...a few..
This whole web site is devoted to the betterment of the sales of manufactured/modular homes...Yet the few bad experiences are left posted for the future buyers to learn from(the moderators here can delete any post...but few accept spam are ever deleted)...The happiest consumers are the most informed...they are a nightmare for the few crooked sales persons left in the business...
Modular homes like manufactured homes like stick built (site built) homes come in all different quality ranges and are sold by all different types of dealers (or builders)..there are many happy folks and a few not so happy...
If you decided that you would never buy a product that had any unhappy customers...well you would not be buying very many things...
The trick is to inform yourself...understand the product you are buying...know what you expect of a home...know what you need in a home...then go for it..
All homes come in various quality levels...all builders and dealers have different ability and customer attitudes...it is up to you to decide what is best for you..

Re: Glad I passed
Okay, let's see what I can come up with in less than five minutes on google...
http://www.newhomesreviews.com/phpBB/index.php
http://www.consumerreports.org/main/con ... _id=333143
http://www.constructiondefects.com/pr_a_shoddy.asp
http://www.contractorsfromhell.com/
http://www.nbrhd.net/topics/badhomes/bh020301.htm
http://www.travelripoffreport.com/ (search reports and select builders under the search catagories)
Wow. Looks like we'd all be better off living in caves. LOL!!
And, for a little background, my family is a major home building company in Ohio, so I have nothing to "gain" by posting these.
The fact is, you'll get problems with ANY type of home building. And ANY builder will eventually get complaints.

Re: Glad I passed
The other post has quit a few...but..
12 sites are listed here...1 manufactured home site...10 stick built sites..1..does not belong in the list..
http://b.webring.com/navcgi?ring=defect;list
The grand daddy of them all...
HOMEOWNERS AGAINST DEFICIENT DWELLINGS ..they are in the process of rebuilding there data base of hundreds of complaints about hundreds of site builders...out of fairness..they pick on manufactured homes as well...
http://www.hadd.com/
Being a "smart" buyer is the only way to avoid problems...even then the only way to NEVER have problems is to never buy anything..

We have fun messing with you also. It's not every day we get such a talented representative of the stick-built industry here to provide commentary.
