northeast Florida

I have been reading this forum for about 6 months now & have learned more than I ever thought I would about manufactured homes.
I live in Jacksonville, FL (NE FL) & am ready to purchase my doublewide most likely either a Skyline or Homes of Merit.
does anyone have any recommendations of dealerships that would sell one of these two manufactured homes.
what are the top 10 items you would upgrade on the homes? I have thought about upgrading to 2x6 wall studs 16" oc. 2x8 floor studs 16" oc., better insulation package & better windows. anything I'm missing on my first major purchase ?

thanks for your help.

Upgrade bathroom and kitchen fixtures, get drywall thru-out,tape and textured, this makes it feel like home!. upgrade to a better grade of carpeting and vinyl, make sure all the outlets and switches have boxes in the walls, I have self contained switches and outlets and I don't think its the way to go. If I think of anything else I will be sure to let you know. GOOD LUCK!

I am not current on Skylines FL product...but most of the construction upgrades are standard in the HOM from Lake City..

You are very lucky..you are no more than 2 hours from both plants...It would be very useful to make visits..(by appointment) to Homes of Merit in Lake City and the Skyline plant in Ocala..Both plants will arrange for tours during the week when the plants are open...Let the factory show you what they do..see inside and under the hidden areas of the home..Make sure you take the time to have a complete walk around on each brand..

Homes of Merit has its largest dealer in your area...C&G Homes..based in Lake City but I think they have locations in Jax..They are locally owned and have been primarily HOM dealers for nearly 20 years..

Good Luck

I have been looking and doing a lot of research. What I have found out is that if you want a Home of Merit you should try to get one that is manufactured in Bartow. The construction is so much better and the homes look so much nicer on the inside. They stack up very well against PH and outshine Skyline. Take a look you will be glad you did. Their web address is www.homeofmerit.com.
