In another thread it was mentioned that buying a m/h in a park isn't a good idea. That's what I've been looking into at age 61. I'm not thinking appreciation but rather ammenities and convenience. My grandson says it's a bad move from the lack of appreciation aspect..my kids think it's a great idea for a single woman my age. Any thoughts on the subject?

Mobile Home Parks ??
Re: Mobile Home Parks ??
From everything I have read, both here and elsewhere, I agree with you. Manufactured housing seems to appreciate based on the same factors as site built homes and homes at parks versus parks on private land. I have been trying to locate a m/h that is located in a resident owned park, as many lenders will not finance m/h on rented lot space, I am thinking that a resident owned park would make it easier from a financing standpoint, I have seen several resident owned parks that are 55+ communities and for you, I would imagine it would be a good idea from the amenities standpoint and I have heard that many of these communities offer activities so you can form friendships (you cannot have too many of them) with your neighbors....
Just my 8 cents' worth. Is there anyone else able to contribute?

You have hit the nail on the head...parks offer some of the most relaxed living you can find...Nice parks can be a great place to live...Resale in most parks is hard in the short run...but over a long period of time things seem to work out...As you said..qaulity of life is the important aspect of your decision...A choice that is good for you might very well not be good for your grandson...Much different long term goals are involved..
Be sure to check out potential parks very well...Stop in the clubhouse...drive through..talk to many residents...Remember there is always someone not happy..but get the general feeling of the group..
The biggest disadvantage is if the park sells out for other uses and all residents have to move out...This does happen..but it happens seldom...location is important here...You want a good location for you...but not so good that the land is worth more for other uses...
There are millions of retirees in manufactured homes...loving everyday they live in adult parks...Good Luck
