I am not sure how long these books have been published...but the " "How To Buy A Manufactured-Mobile Home And Save Thousands Of Dollars" by Randy Eaton "

book is very good for getting to know about the features both construction and otherwise that you might want to have in yours.....

How does Liberty compare with the items on Randy's list of recommended features????

Construction in general has not changed in the last few years....but each manufacturer is making changes every month trying to cope with the very tough market now....That means...a Liberty built in the plant you mentioned today....may well be different than the home built there last month...It is much better to get the book....decide which features you want..and then be sure your has them...

Most manufacturers are OK on factory service...Most important is the dealer....but many of the weak dealers have gone out of business in the last few months...Most dealers left are those that take care of the customer well...

It is very scary buying a new home!! I want to make sure we are getting a well built home with good service. All the specs on this home are excellent. It is built like a modular except for the metal frame. It is a new model they just came out with this year. It all sounds very good, but how can a buyer very sure of quailty? How can we tell if they have good customer service?

"built like a modular except for the metal frame"...does not mean much...modulars span a whole range of building specs...some not very good...remember all portable classrooms are modular..yet most are very basic in construction and finish..

Almost all manufacturers are resonable in after sale service...some better than others...but all will respond to reasonable customers in a reasonable period of time...

It is your responsibility to understand the warranty...Ask for a copy and read it before you purchase...Know what is covered, by whom and when the coverage ends...Examples...appliances are always covered by their manufacturer..not the factory that built the home...cosmectic items (read the definition Liberty has) usually are covered for a very limited time..30 to 60 days...remember the time starts when the home leaves the dealer lot....sometime there is 60 days until you take over the home...

Know what is dealer responsibility...Anything the dealer installs, set up, a/c, skirting..the list goes on and on..The vast majority of major service problems in the past were dealer responsibility..

Most important...request your service in writing...keep copies...understand who is responsible..move forward...

Remember this...50% of all homes have NO warranty service calls...50% of the rest have 1...the last 25% will have more than 1 and very few will have many problems...Go for it before the interest rate rise anymore..

Grace ... the book you are refering to is a must buy for you. Why do I say this? Because, I was facing your same dilema until last week. I bought the book and now feel that I am in the drivers seat regarding the buying process of a manufactured home. You should note ... I thought I had covered all my bases prior to buying the book ... looking back, I was the fool that was going to spend WAY too much and never know it.

The copy that I have (purchased last tuesday 8-5-03) was last updated in March of 2003. There is no question that I will purchase a better product at a lower price after reading this book.

The return on investment for the book has turned out to be a NO BRAINER, for me.

Good Luck to you

I have to agree, the book is well worth the money when shopping for a manufactured home, tells many things you would not think of to look for and do,we are happy with it too, plus we got the how to deal for a home also.
