HUD code question
HUD code question
Getting a kitchen with an island (w/sink). We want to move the island closer to the marraige line (towards a counter that has the stove/refrigerator). This will create the traffic flow we want, around the outside of the island (closer to exterior wall).
Have been told that HUD code won't let us do this, there has to be ~36"(same as a hall way) between the island and the counter.
Can anyone comment on the truth to this? Is there a HUD number to call to check? HUD email?
This is the last piece before we purchase. Will post details/numbers when we're done.
Thanks,
Bob
Re: HUD code question
Searched the HUD page last night, couldn't find anything related to this situation, other then minimum hall width: 27". As I was told 27", wonder if the island can be moved in 9" with a big hassle.
I guess the answer is no, so will make this a project on my own down the road. Will give HUD a call today to see if there's a simple (and cheap) way to do this now.

Blurring the manufactured homes
I have recently found some news. I live in a private community that does not allow manufactured housing of any type, however they do allow modulars. Our community recently had a new (Modular House) set in the community, by all aspects it is a double wide home, however the roof has the correct pitch and is not on a metal frame, but I found out through some research that manufactured housing is now using the hinged roof system and can take any double wide floor plan and by simply removing it from the metal frame changing the floor joist, removing the gable from above the front door it then becomes a modular? Is this true?
